Grizzly Ridge Upcycle
Grizzly Ridge Upcycle began in 2015 as a funky, eclectic art gallery located on Hood Avenue in the heart of beautiful downtown Sisters Oregon. It was a wonderfully unique assortment of fabulous creativity from a multitude of clever and talented artists carefully selected for their one of a kind artwork.
Most of our artwork was created using repurposed/recycled materials. We love that we were able to find creative ways to re-use material that would otherwise be discarded. We soon realized that the beautiful inherent character and history gleaned from these humble beginnings adds a marvelous flavor to the finished product. It is truly amazing that there are so many ways normal, everyday objects can be transformed into fabulous treasure. The possibilities are limitless! So, with over 162 total artists during the 5 years on Hood Avenue, the wide variety of upcycle art was astounding. The space was widely popular and received thousands of visitors from around the world every year.
Then, in April of 2020, businesses all over Oregon were mandated to shut down due to the Covid 19 virus outbreak. Since the summer season was so uncertain at that time, we decided to close the Hood Avenue gallery until we could be actively back in business again.
In February 2021, we found a bigger & better location on Elm Street in Sisters, and began renovations ourselves. After months of major DIY activity, the new location opened it's doors in May 2021, under the name, "Grizzly Ridge Maker's Market". The space was twice as big as the Hood Avenue location, and the renovations turned out beautiful. There were tall ceilings, huge windows and entrances from both sides.
Several of our most popular artists returned, but Covid had definitely changed things. Many of our previous artists were no longer available due to various personal circumstances. However, our masked guests returned in droves, and the summer season of 2021 was as delightful as possible under the circumstances. Then, as 2022 rolled around, the costs of travel, food and vacationing began to soar. It soon became apparent that a recession was looming, so the physical location was permanently closed in August, 2022.
Owner Rhonda Barney, and her husband Don decided they would better enjoy taking their art to shows, or selling online. They are extremely pleased with the added freedom this brings, and they are very excited for the next chapter in their adventures.
We look forward to seeing all our old art friends at events around Oregon and we are excited to meet new people in the future too.
