We have our first display! Tim Foertsch of Troutdale, Oregon, brought over his awesome bells! These gorgeous bells are made from very old welding tanks cast away by the US Navy! Not only are these bells beautiful, the sound they produce is really nice~ mellow and haunting. I even love the really cool steam punk style stand he brought over to display them on! (See Pics below!) Tim is planning to bring more of his art to our shop soon. I think I have talked him into providing some sculpture for the garden area! I can't wait to see what he brings me! If you want to know more about Tim and his work go to: www.haoleware.com
I am also happy to report that we have completed the paint job on the interior walls, and it turned out awesome! No blood, a whole bunch of sweat, and no tears! My dear husband, (Donnie) displayed extreme self control and did not resort to duct taping my mouth shut, even though I took to singing very loudly to pass the time. From his reaction to said singing, I do not possess talent in this area. AT ALL! I think I have also ruined his favorite song. (He brought a radio the next day!) Anyway, I still have work to do on the trim and the doors really need work too, but overall I am happy with our progress.
Another big event this week is the successful installation of our customer counter! If you remember, this huge, heavy thing was upside down in our barn, teetering on saw horses, threatening to squish any small creatures unlucky enough to venture under there! My amazing, genius, hubby, Donnie, rigged a wench in the rafters, jacked that sucker up and backed the truck right under it! One of our grown up kiddos, Nik, came over to help out, and it was a breeze! When we got over to the shop, all we had to do was lay down plywood and wheel it in on piano dollies! Yay Donnie!!
I have gotten a whole lot of response to my artist invitations, and I am excited to get this gallery open!
Here are some pics:
According to the Google home page, today is, "The International Day of Happiness"! For me, today was the day I selected the first group of artists, and invited them into my new tribe!
The rest of this Happiness Day will be spent prepping the interior of the store for a paint job! (I have a feeling "spent" will be the word of the day, once it is over!)
The outside of the building will get a makeover soon too, so I wanted to share some "before" pics. The green may not look so bad at this distance, but trust me, up close and personal, that is a hideous color and there is way too much of it!
Well~ It's 5 AM and I really shouldn't be awake yet, but I just can't sleep... I have to warn you here~ early morning sleeplessness always means I am mulling things over, and my thoughts are coming directly from my heart.
A hundred to-do lists have been bumping around, and I have been constantly reminding myself to breathe these past few weeks. It feels like I have been stuffed inside a shoe box for the last 36 years... Now, I have finally kicked open the box and gulped in some fresh air, pulling moth balls from my ears and blinking at the bright sunlight. Exhilaration mixed with a tiny amount of pure terror is boiling around in my head. I find myself giddy one moment, and hyper-ventilating the next.
Luckily, I am too much of a dreamer to let a little terror get in the way! I am so pleased and humbled by all the responses that have been coming in, and the artists are so talented! I find it fascinating that such a wonderful, wide variety of beautiful, clever, comical artwork is being made from ordinary junk that others find useless. The fact that these humans have visualized and produced these creations just blows me away.
I feel so grateful and inspired by all that is happening, that I can hardly contain myself. My hubby has been SO supportive throughout this whole transformation. I can't believe how lucky I am to have landed right here, right now. I know he has to be as terrified as I am deep down inside, but he refuses to show that to me, and instead, he has been my ROCK!
So all I have left to say is, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
God~ The Universe~ my inner Goddess~ I don't care what label you use, all I know is that I have been nurtured and nudged and very much loved, and for that I am very grateful.
And as for Donnie and myself, we are ALL IN! We are doing this thing, and there ain't no plan B!
Life is GOOD!
Well, the stars are all lining up just right, and I am seeing nothing but green lights all the way! Yay!
Repairs and cleaning are being done on the building now, and we get the keys on April 1st. I will immediately dig into prepping the interior for a new paint job. My awesome hubby, Donnie is taking that next week off so he can help me get going. We will rent a paint sprayer, once everything is taped off and ready to paint. (Good thing I LOVE to paint stuff, huh?)
We had a very fruitful day last Saturday on a local picking excursion! (Get it? Fruitful... picking...) Cracking myself up! ha ha! ~ Donnie has scored two old pianos that he wants to convert into a whiskey bar. Very heavy items.. pianos, picking them up later. Have to find some strong helpers first!
We also stopped by Habitat for Humanity in Bend, and got a couple of old doors, and an old headboard; it looks like one of those old water bed headboards from the 70's... (I may, or may not have had one in the past... not telling! Don't judge me!)
But... the BEST score of the day was the perfect customer counter for the new store! They told us it was donated from Applebee's! It already has the lower area for ADA compliance, too! So great! It was so heavy it took 4 guys to load it onto our truck. Since it was only Donnie & I unloading it, it was quite an ordeal. All I have to say about that is that the thing is now upside down in our barn, on top of two saw horses and a bunch of boards. The barn doors have been closed and all squishable animals have been safely ushered out. Once we get the counter over to the store, I get to paint it and add some tile to the top. The picture in my head is AWESOME! I just hope it turns out like I think it will!
Yesterday, I sent out emails to a whole bunch of wonderful upcycle artists. I am very pleased to say the response has been great. I don't think we will have any problem filling up the store with amazing merchandise. I just can't believe I get to do what I am doing! I am so very grateful!
I will keep posting as things develop! LOT'S OF LOVE!
My inner weirdo recognizes and appreciates the weirdo within you! Namaste~
